Nestled in the historic Distillery District are some of the city’s most romantic wedding venues. Meaghan chose Balzac’s Coffee House for her intimate wedding, as well as individually frosted and decorated wedding cakes for each of her guests. I love Balzac’s, and I love minis and special touches – so this one tops my list!
“Rubber Duckie, you’re the one You make bathtime lots of fun Rubber Duckie, I’m awfully fond of you! Doo doo doo doooo, doo doo!” White buttercake with madagascar vanilla buttercream, serves 70.
When everyone starts mourning the end of summer, I’m looking forward to the fall season. I can’t help it – Fall is my favorite season! I love the warm clothes, the colors, and of course, the wedding cakes! Amanda’s fall wedding theme included a mix of burnt orange orchids, cinnamon, ivory and gold accents. Based […]
Many brides are looking for something completely different for their wedding cake. In this case, Lyndsay wanted to skip traditional wedding cake in lieu of cupcakes – but she took it a step further by asking me to arrange the cupcakes into gorgeous “bouquets”, complete with vases and ribbon. The result was outstanding! Each bouquet […]
Great food, great wine, great music – for a great cause? Sign me up! This evening, Roxycakes participated in the 14th edition of Eat to the Beat. The event is a dazzling evening of sampling the gourmet creations of some of the city’s most talented chefs. Eat to the Beat has raised more than $2.7 […]
Stephanie came to me a year ago with a vision, and that vision came to life this past weekend. The flower dome top-tier cake, inspired by a similar cake in the Roxycakes gallery at roxycakes.ca, was the perfect addition to this cupcake tower. I scattered fresh rose petals, ordered from the florist, in between cupcakes […]
I’m excited to be preparing for an upcoming event called Eat to the Beat : an evening of culinary delights benefiting Willow Breast Cancer Support. The event takes place on Tuesday, October 6 2009. I’ll be displaying an extravagant cake while handing out delicious cake samples. For tickets and more information on this event, visit […]
As a cake and cupcake designer, I’m handed many color themes and I have to say – some aren’t easy! So when Jennifer revealed her color palette (ivory, pink, green, white), I breathed a sigh of relief! How can you go wrong with these colors? I make a lot of wedding cupcakes, but I still […]
What a surprise! I always browse the Weddingbells magazine website to keep up with trends. The last time I checked, I was curious when I saw a thumbnail of my cake on main page! I clicked and found I’d been picked as one of Rosie’s top three wedding cake designers in the country. Thanks, Rosie!
Some cakes make me squeal of joy. This was one of them. Arna commissioned this cake for her 60th birthday celebration. Based on our consultations, I knew she loved the topsy-turvy look, but that she also loved her favorite baby blue coffee mug – which I carefully replicated in sugar for this creation. It felt […]
On August 20th, Jersey Boys Toronto celebrated it’s one year anniversary at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. In honour of the anniversary, Dancap Productions commissioned a large, 40 cm x 60 cm rectangular cake featuring the Jersey Boys logo – and I was thrilled to oblige! I was equally thrilled to receive stellar tickets […]
Natalie & David’s cake has to be one of my favorites this year. I love making roses and peonies – and this cake had tons of both! I also love making sugar look like delicately draped fabric, so that made me nuts as well. The flower dome and royal icing details were simply the icing […]
If I had to describe Wedluxe Magazine in one word, it would be, “Delicious”. The first time I picked up an issue, I read it twice, cover-to-cover. I couldn’t put it down. I was completely taken with its beauty and quality. You can imagine my reaction when they asked me to contribute a lovely pink […]
I’m loving all the trend videos on Weddingbells.ca. You can see two Roxycakes featured in this great wedding cake trends video on Weddingbells.ca. See their entire wedding trend video library here.
Who doesn’t love birds? When Mary asked for a love-bird-wedding cake, I couldn’t wait to get started on these little cuties. I absolutely adored this four-tier cake – with delicate chocolate branches and bottom tier, hand-painted to resemble a wooden base.
Roxycakes has just won a live wedding cake design challenge! The live wedding cake design challenge was part of The Cake Show, hosted by The Bonnie Gordon School of Confectionary Arts, held this past Sunday, May 31st 2009, at Artscape Wychwood Barns. My terrific assistant Kristie Figgens helped me take home the title. For this […]
I had so much fun creating this retro-Palm-Springs cake last week and had to post this photo. I painted the palm trees around the cake using a fine brush and food coloring. After delivering the cake, I placed two large, three-dimensional black palm trees on the top tier, all made out of sugar, which completed […]
Roxycakes just received the 2008 Canadian Wedding Industry Award for Best Cupcake Design!
One of the highlights of the week was this groom’s cake for the wedding rehearsal dinner of a sweet couple whom met while working at Campbell’s. Now I’m off to Ontario’s wine country to deliver part deux of their order – a wonderful three-tier wedding cake decorated to look like a selection of fine cheeses […]
A virtual wedding show! You must see this. The Wedding Co. really understands modern brides. They’re busy! Managing a career and planning a designer wedding is no picnic. So they MADE it a picnic! http://thespringweddingshow.com
This week’s highlight was definitely Tavis & Angela’s ultra-chic tower of wedding cakes. I just adore everything about this… 100 miniature white buttercakes with meyer lemon cream filling. And of course, sweet matching bonbonnières…
The first highlight this week was definitely teaching The Art of Sculpted Cakes at the Bonnie Gordon School of Cake Design. I was amazed at how talented the students were. I demonstrated how to sculpt a fairly simple shape, a hamburger – and Joanna, the talented intern who assisted me with this task, spent many […]
Peonies are hot! I’ve yet to meet a bride this year who isn’t incorporating this romantic, complex flower into her wedding décor. Who can blame them? I’m also under the peony spell, which is great since I’ll be making lots of sweet replicas of these beauties this wedding season.
Hand-made sugar hydrangeas in various pink hues top these lovely Madagascar vanilla cupcakes. Pink and pewter has to be my favorite color combination this year – it seems almost feminine and masculine all at once.
Brie, beemster and cheddar. Or rather chocolate, chocolate and chocolate! This miniature cheesecake measures 7″, 5″ and 3″ and serves 20 connoisseurs. :) :)
Many couples choose to save the top tier of their wedding cake. By tradition, they set it aside until their first anniversary. To do this, the cake should be triple-wrapped in plastic, placed into a box, covered in foil and then placed into the freezer. These crucial steps might appear simple – but on the […]
It’s April, and officially wedding season! What better way to start off the season than with this simple, elegant design. “It was an absolutely delightful experience to work with Roxy. From the very first consultation – where she asked excellent questions, shared her portfolio, and provided a sample of her offerings – Roxy positioned herself […]
